Frequently Asked Questions

General FAQ

What is the core mission of The John Amhanesi Foundation (JAF)?

+

JAF's mission is to empower Nigeria's next generation of workforce talent through transformative initiatives and strategic partnerships that unlock agency, foster community leadership, and inspire a new standard of professional excellence.

Where does JAF operate?

+

JAF is headquartered in Nigeria and currently operates programs nationwide, with a growing physical presence and expansion plans across multiple states.

How is JAF governed?

+

The foundation is supported by an Advisory Board consisting of young professionals from diverse sectors, plus CEO John Amhanesi, who serves as Board Chair. The advisory board members contribute their diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and expertise to help guide and strengthen the foundation's strategic direction.

You can learn more about the role of the Advisory Board on the website's Advisory Board page.

Is JAF a registered non-profit?

+

Yes, The John Amhanesi Foundation is officially incorporated as a nonprofit organization under the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) of Nigeria. We achieved formal incorporation in August 2024, establishing JAF as a legally recognized charitable entity committed to transparency, accountability, and compliance with all Nigerian nonprofit regulations.

Does the founder personally profit from JAF's work?

+

Our chair does not operate JAF with any intent to profit from its charitable activities. Furthermore, all Nigerian nonprofits are subject to legal restrictions that prohibit them from being operated in ways that personally benefit their founders.

Any financial earnings and donations received by The John Amhanesi Foundation and profits realized by the foundation's strategic investment holdings must be used for its mission-aligned purposes. Guided by this philosophy, the foundation has already committed more than ₦8 million so far to empowering Nigeria's next generation of workforce talent.

How is JAF funded?

+

Currently, as an early-stage nonprofit, JAF is primarily supported by an endowed commitment from our founder, John Amhanesi, which provides the operational foundation as we develop sustainable revenue streams and expand our donor base.

In the future, JAF will operate through individual donations, grants, corporate sponsorships, and service fees from our External Programs Division partnerships.

Why is JAF based in Nigeria, and does it work continentally or globally?

+

The John Amhanesi Foundation was founded to address the critical gap in youth leadership development within Nigeria, where over 60% of the population is under 25 yet lacks systematic access to professional and civic leadership opportunities. While our primary focus remains empowering Nigerian youth, our model develops leaders who understand how transnational collaboration and cross-border innovation drive national development.

Nigeria's future leaders must engage effectively on continental and global stages. Our programs emphasize skills and perspectives that enable participants to contribute to Nigeria's advancement while building meaningful partnerships across Africa and internationally. This approach recognizes that local impact and global competence are interconnected in today's economy.

JAF operates exclusively within Nigeria, but we envision our alumni creating networks and initiatives that extend across borders—bringing international best practices home while sharing Nigerian innovation globally.

What programs does JAF offer?

+

JAF operates through two main divisions:

Internal Programs Division (IPD): Direct programs in Education and Social Welfare that are delivered by our internal staff and resources.

External Programs Division (EPD): Corporate and Civic programs delivered through partnerships with organizations across private and public sectors.

How long do JAF programs typically last?

+

Program duration varies significantly based on type and objectives. Our programs range from short-term workshops and competitions lasting days or weeks to comprehensive fellowship and internship programs extending several months. Specific timelines are detailed in individual program descriptions.

Does JAF offer remote or virtual programs?

+

Many JAF programs incorporate virtual elements. Program format depends on objectives - some require in-person engagement while others are fully remote. Format details are specified in each program announcement.

How does JAF decide which programs to develop?

+

JAF's program development is guided by identified gaps in Nigeria's youth leadership pipeline, feedback from participants and partners, and alignment with our mission to empower workforce talent. Our Internal Programs Division creates programs based on community needs assessments and educational impact opportunities, while our External Programs Division develops programs in response to partner requests and market demands. All new programs must demonstrate clear pathways to leadership development and sustainable impact before implementation.

Does JAF charge fees for programs?

+

All JAF programs are offered at no cost to participants. We believe financial barriers should not prevent talented young Nigerians from accessing community development and professional engagement opportunities.

Who can apply and participate in JAF programs?

+

Our programs target Nigerian students and young professionals from senior secondary school through early career (typically ages 15-30) seeking to develop leadership skills, gain professional experience, and create positive impact in their communities. Specific requirements vary by program.

Can Nigerians living abroad participate in JAF programs?

+

JAF programs are designed specifically for Nigerian youth development, with priority given to current residents. We also welcome applications from Nigerians in the diaspora who seek to contribute to Nigeria's development through their international experience and perspectives. We are exploring reserving 10-20% of program slots for Nigerians living abroad, as part of our strategy to reverse brain drain and reconnect talented Nigerians with opportunities to reshape the future of national development.

How does JAF select program participants?

+

Selection varies by program but generally includes application review, evaluation of commitment to community impact, assessment of leadership potential, and alignment with program objectives. Specific criteria are outlined for each program opportunity.

How can I apply for JAF programs?

+

Applications are accepted during designated enrollment periods throughout the year, with timing varying by program type and division. Check our Program Application page for current openings, specific eligibility requirements, and application deadlines. You can also join our mailing list or follow our social media channels to receive timely updates about new application cycles and program announcements.

How does JAF measure program success?

+

JAF uses data-driven evaluation methods including pre- and post-program assessments, career outcome tracking, and community impact documentation. We measure both quantitative results (employment outcomes, leadership positions) and qualitative feedback from participants and employers through internal monitoring systems. Annual impact reports document our progress toward empowering Nigeria's next generation of workforce talent.

How does JAF ensure accountability and transparency in its operations?

+

JAF maintains accountability through multiple oversight mechanisms including independent board governance, annual financial audits, and public impact reporting. We publish annual reports detailing program outcomes, financial performance, and organizational progress. Our board of directors provides independent oversight of executive leadership, and we comply with all Nigerian nonprofit regulatory requirements. Additionally, we maintain open communication channels for feedback from participants, partners, and stakeholders to ensure continuous improvement and public accountability.

How can my organization partner with JAF?

+

Organizations can partner through our External Programs Division to organize corporate or civic programs for their early career employees, emerging talent pipeline, or specific communities they aim to impact. We work with companies, government agencies, student associations, NGOs, and institutions to develop customized leadership and professional development initiatives.

How can I volunteer with JAF?
